Kenya's entertainment landscape has increasingly shifted towards podcasts, with celebrity interviews and long-form conversations becoming a primary source of the country's entertainment headlines.
Recent conversations involving creators and public figures demonstrate how podcast episodes can shape online conversations for days after publication, with short video clips circulating widely across TikTok, Instagram, X, and Facebook before being picked up by mainstream entertainment platforms.

As podcast audiences expand, interviews released on these platforms increasingly serve as the initial venue where artists, creators, and public figures share personal experiences, career updates, and entertainment stories.
The growth of podcasting is reflected in recent audience data. According to a report by Nairobi-based research firm Odipo Dev, the average podcast video in Kenya attracts more than seven times the views and fourteen times the engagement of a mainstream media upload.
"In our sample, the average podcast video racks up over seven times the views of a mainstream media upload, and 14 times more engagement (likes, shares, and comments)," the research states.
The report further notes that content creator Abel Mutua outperformed several traditional media outlets in average views per upload during the reviewed period.

Industry stakeholders link the expansion of podcasts to increased investment from brands and sponsors. According to Odipo Dev, advertisers and investors are actively considering podcasts as a viable choice for marketing campaigns, with many stakeholders identifying the medium as a cost-effective alternative to traditional broadcasting.
Data from both video and audio platforms highlights the leading productions within the country. The Mkurugenzi Podcast, hosted by scriptwriter, actor, and director Abel Mutua, is ranked among the country's leading productions based on average YouTube views per video. Dr. King’ori is also featured among the highest-performing Kenyan podcasters, focusing on topical discussions and interview-driven content. Beyond YouTube, podcasts continue to grow on audio platforms; Spotify's Wrapped rankings placed Mic Cheque Podcast, The 97s Podcast, and Iko Nini Podcast among Kenya's most-streamed productions.

The rise of the medium is also driven by hosts intending to create niche content for specific demographics. For example, Eli Mwenda, co-host of the Mantalk.ke podcast, noted that the objective of their long-form format was to establish a dedicated space for men to speak openly and engage with various thought leaders.
