Kenyan content creator Bro Mfalme has sparked a lively debate on social media after suggesting that men who know how to cook, wash clothes and clean dishes are “red flags.”
Speaking in a video that has since circulated widely online, Bro Mfalme argued that men should embrace a more carefree lifestyle instead of taking on household chores.
“A man who knows how to cook, wash clothes and dishes is a red flag. A man is supposed to be a reckless person,” he said.
His remarks quickly drew thousands of reactions, with many social media users disagreeing and insisting that basic life skills have nothing to do with masculinity.
Kenyans defend self-reliance
A significant number of commenters said every adult, regardless of gender, should be capable of taking care of themselves.

Instagram user joe_a_amaru wrote: “That’s how we raise irresponsible men. Self-reliance is a skill every man should have.” kenyan_banker echoed the sentiment, saying: “Speak for yourself. I can do anything, and I believe every man should be able to do so.”
Some criticised the advice.
Several users dismissed Bro Mfalme’s opinion as misguided. deejay_mixstar reacted with: “Nonsense.” local_c.e.o commented: “I can’t take this advice.”
User its.travis._ argued that Bro Mfalme should avoid speaking on behalf of all men. “Speak for yourself. Say, ‘Me as a man.’ Don’t say ‘men.’”
Others responded with humour. onyisoedits joked: “A man shouldn’t hang paintings in his house. Hang steel wire instead and be reckless.” Meanwhile, Sheriff C. Sheriffc. remarked: “You have a powerful name (Mfalme), but you’re powerless.”
Different experiences, different views
Some commenters suggested that upbringing often shapes people’s views on household responsibilities.
steveausteen_ke wrote: “Those of us raised by single mothers had to do everything. Stop misleading people.” Similarly, Amenyahesbon revealed he handled household chores before getting married. “I did that before marriage in a better way.”
Others chose humour over criticism.
thisiscrushal joked: “There’s so much advice these days that I don’t even know which one to follow.”
Changing attitudes
Bro Mfalme’s remarks have reignited a familiar discussion about masculinity and domestic responsibilities in modern society.
