Gospel deejay Samuel Muraya, popularly known as DJ Mo, has found himself on the wrong side of the law after being arrested and presented before the Milimani Traffic Court over traffic-related offences.

The entertainer was arrested on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, following an encounter with traffic police officers along Thika Road in Nairobi.

He was subsequently fined KSh5,000 after admitting to the offences in court.

DJ Mo Arrested Along Thika Road

According to details presented in court, DJ Mo was stopped by police officers at approximately 8:55 a.m. near the Roasters area while driving his Jaguar.

The entertainer was accused of driving the vehicle without valid third-party motor vehicle insurance, contrary to the Insurance (Motor Vehicle Third Party Risks) Act.

He also faced an alternative charge of failing to display a valid insurance certificate.

A separate charge involved allegedly disobeying lawful instructions issued by a police officer in uniform.

The prosecution told the court that an officer had instructed him to drive the vehicle to a police station, but he allegedly declined and continued towards Thika, prompting officers to pursue him before his eventual arrest.

Entertainer Explains Why He Had Not Renewed Insurance

While appearing before the court, DJ Mo explained that he had forgotten to renew his vehicle’s insurance after it expired the previous day.

He told the magistrate that he had been rushing to pick up his sick child from school when the incident happened.

The entertainer also revealed that the arrest and subsequent court proceedings disrupted his travel plans, causing him to miss a scheduled flight to the United States.

Following the incident, DJ Mo took to social media, sharing a light-hearted message about his experience at the courts.

He also reminded motorists to ensure their vehicle insurance documents are up to date to avoid finding themselves in similar situations.

Court Orders DJ Mo to Pay KSh5,000

The case was heard at the Milimani Traffic Court, where DJ Mo was fined a total of KSh5,000.

The amount comprised KSh3,000 for the insurance-related offence and KSh2,000 for disobeying the police officer’s lawful instructions.

After paying the fine, the gospel entertainer was released.

The incident has since attracted attention online, with Kenyans reacting to the circumstances surrounding his arrest and the reminder about the importance of renewing vehicle insurance on time.

For motorists, third-party insurance is a legal requirement, and driving without valid cover can result in prosecution.

DJ Mo’s experience serves as a reminder that even a seemingly small oversight, such as forgetting to renew an insurance policy, can lead to unexpected legal and financial consequences.
