Nairobi Chief Officer for Citizen Engagement and Customer Service, Geoffrey Mosiria, has called for a popular polygamy-themed television series to be removed from Netflix in Kenya, arguing that it is negatively affecting marriages and shaping public attitudes towards relationships.
Speaking in a video shared online, Mosiria said the programme was creating unnecessary suspicion among couples and giving viewers a distorted image of polygamous families.
"This movie has destroyed people's marriages. It should be banned because it is spoiling families and the minds of people," Mosiria said.
According to him, some women have become more suspicious of their husbands after watching the series.

"A wife sees her husband with a female friend and immediately starts thinking he will become a polygamist. Women are enjoying it, but it is spoiling marriages and giving them wrong ideas," he said.
Defending polygamy
Mosiria clarified that he was not opposed to polygamy itself, saying he comes from a polygamous family and believes the lifestyle should not be negatively portrayed.
"I am not against polygamy because I have seen people who were born in polygamous families, and I am also a product of a polygamous family," he said.
He added that although he is personally married to one wife, he believes polygamy is not inherently wrong.
"The movie is exaggerating. It is making it look bad. It is making it look like anybody who is a polygamist is a womaniser and an animal, but polygamy is not bad," he said.
Mosiria also revealed that he comes from a large family.
"I am number 21 out of 22 children. Previously, we were 21 until my father came out openly and announced that we are 22. A big family is good," he said.
Mixed reactions online
His remarks quickly sparked debate on social media, with many users questioning why a television series should be banned because of its content.
Some argued that viewers have the freedom to choose what they watch and that entertainment should not be blamed for problems within relationships.

Others said television programmes often reflect social issues rather than create them, while some agreed with Mosiria's concerns about the influence media can have on audiences.
