Nairobi’s social calendar is preparing for a major transformation this winter. On July 25, 2026, the city will host the Agave Affair. This is the first premium festival in the region dedicated entirely to tequila. The event is a production by Radio Africa Events in partnership with the KICC.

For many, the event raises a modern dating question: would you attend a tequila festival with your partner? Experts suggest that attending such a festival is a fantastic way for couples to bond.

It allows partners to step out of their normal routines and experience something new together.

Bonding Over Agave

A tequila festival offers a blend of lively entertainment and flavour discovery. Couples can taste-test dozens of different tequilas and craft cocktails side-by-side. This provides a fun opportunity to compare notes and preferences.

"Breaking away from your usual date-night spots and immersing yourself in a festive crowd can bring you closer together.”

To ensure a smooth experience, organisers suggest couples set expectations in advance. Discussing whether to stick together or split up to grab different food can prevent confusion.

Having a designated meet-up spot is also recommended if the crowd of over 2,000 guests becomes too busy.

Changing the Spirit's Narrative

The Agave Affair aims to shift the cultural perception of tequila in Kenya. Currently, the spirit is often misunderstood as just a "party shot." The festival intends to reposition it as a sophisticated sipping experience.

Market data shows that tequila is the third fastest-growing spirit category in East Africa. However, a significant gap in consumer knowledge remains.

  • 87% of Kenyan consumers have only ever taken tequila as a shot.
  • 0 dedicated tequila festivals currently exist in the Kenyan market.

The event seeks to educate attendees on the drink's versatility. This includes exploring neat pours, complex cocktails, and food pairings.

A Ten-Hour Curated Journey

The festival is designed as a 10-hour experience. It runs from 4 PM until 2 AM at the KICC. The venue will feature a "Main Tent" as the heartbeat of the event. This is surrounded by individual brand tents and strategic cocktail bars.

The atmosphere will be defined by a sonic journey. The music starts with warm Afrobeats during the Golden Hour as the sun goes down.It then moves into soulful Amapiano and peaks with Afro-house.The night ends with nostalgic Hip-Hop and an eclectic Afro-fusion set.

Nairobi Tequila Festival
The Agave Chic Aesthetic

Attendees are encouraged to follow a specific dress code called"Agave Chic." This involves wearing earthy tones, agave greens, and linen sets. Organisers describe the vibe as Coachella meets Nairobi elegance.

To keep energy levels high, a food court will serve tacos, BBQ, and sliders. These dishes are specifically paired with different tequila profiles to elevate the spirit.
