SpitFire FC players celebrate after sealing National Super League qualification/HANDOUT Kibera Soccer, Mfalme FC, SpitFire and Kiminini Combined have qualified for the National Super League for the 2026/27 season.
They qualified following their triumph in their respective Footballl Kenya Federation Division One Zones.
They will replace Darajani Gogo, Mully Children’s Family, Vihiga United, and Mwatate United, who drop to the third-tier league.
However, the relegation and promotion of teams from SportPesa League, National Super League and the Division One is subject to several cases in the Sports Disputes Tribunal and other courts.
On Sunday, Spitfire FC, coached by Daniel Shikoli, beat Bumbani 3-0 in the season-ending match to win the FKF Division One Zone A title.
Shikoli said: “I want to thank God for the win, which has helped us qualify for NSL in our third attempt. The boys showed commitment and focus throughout the season.
Salim Mohammed, who was one of the founders of SpitFire, said he is happy after leading the team for NSL.
Kiminini Combined were crowned the Division One Zone C title after an outstanding, which ended with a 2-1 win over Trans Nzoia All Stars on Sunday
Despite the success, coach Yohana Wanyama observed, “It has been tough, but we thank God for this. We are the first team from Trans Nzoia to play in the NSL. This county is a home of talent."
He added: “We have now shifted our focus to the pre-season because NSL is a difficult league.”
Kevin Agesa grabbed a brace for Kimilili Combined while Tony Onyango scored All Stars’ consolation goal.
Elsewhere, already promoted Mfalme FC, coached by Julius Abik, beat rivals Chebaiywa 2-1 to be crowned FKF Division One Zone D champions.
Abik said they don’t want to stay in NSL for long. “Our target is to stay in the NSL for one season, then qualify for the SportPesa League,” said Abik.
“We have a supportive management. We have a young and disciplined team. They have worked hard to achieve this.”
In FKF Division One Zone B, Kibera Soccer, under coach Idd Shikanda, edged hosts Kenya Police Youth 1-0 to earn promotion to the second-tier league.
Shikanda, who joined the team in the second leg, said: “Despite the challenges here and there, we have had a good run. I want to thank the management and sponsors.”
“It is a dream come true. It’s a dream of every coach to guide the team to the next level. It feels good to be champions.”
