Kenyan students should remain disciplined for them to succeed in their future lives, Principal Secretary for Interior and National Administration Raymond Omollo has said.
Omollo argued that respect for teachers, parents, and the community by students is key in making young learners responsible citizens in the future.
Cases of unruliness have been witnessed in recent weeks, with some students setting ablaze and damaging school property without proper reasons.
The PS said unrest among students interferes with the school calendar and learning programmes.
“Students should know that success doesn't depend only on passing exams. Discipline is the most important thing that makes people go places and achieve their future dreams,” Omollo said.

Speaking when he joined Oriwo Boys School stakeholders in celebrating the elevation of the school to national school status in Karachuonyo Constituency, the PS urged Kenyan students to change their behaviour by focusing on education.
Oriwo Boys is now a Cluster One (C1) school, which will offer STEM subjects.
He said the government has invested heavily in the education sector to ensure Kenyan children access quality education.
The Kenya Kwanza administration has allocated at least Sh700 billion to support the education sector. The government has also employed over 100,000 new teachers since 2023.
According to Omollo, the funds also aid infrastructural development.
The PS, who was in the company of his Energy counterpart Alex Wachira and Homa Bay UDA women leader Mercy Akenge, urged parents to take their children to school despite the economic difficulties they face, to prevent children from engaging in preventable crimes.
“Many parents struggle to provide for their children and make them go to school. We want students to concentrate on learning and become responsible people in future,” the PS said.
Wachira told students to take their studies seriously, noting that education is the tool that shapes the future. He urged them to avoid unnecessary peer pressure, which leads to unrest and burning of schools.
He said the government will ensure a stable power supply in the school for continuous learning.
“Students must persevere and work hard in order to achieve their academic dreams. Nothing will come on a silver platter,” Wachira said.
Akenge said the elevation of Oriwo Boys to national school status will enhance integration and cohesion in the country.
Students from various parts of the country will be admitted as the school adopts a national outlook.
“The school community’s businesses is expected to increase due to increased population. Oriwo Boys deserves the elevation,” Akenge said.
Oriwo Boys Chief Principal Tom Amadi said they need a borehole to supply adequate water for students in the school.
He said they also need an expansion of the ICT hub to accommodate the growing population.
“The infrastructural development will ensure a conducive environment for learning. We are telling students to prioritise learning so that they can succeed,” Amadi said.
