Kenyan musician and businessman KRG The Don has spoken out against calls targeting foreign workers in Kenya, urging leaders to focus on improving employment opportunities for citizens instead of creating divisions.

The entertainer shared a lengthy message on his Instagram page after remarks attributed to Dagoretti North MP Beatrice Elachi sparked debate online.
Elachi had reportedly expressed concern over the growing number of Burundian nationals working in construction and private security jobs.

According to statements circulating online, she said:
“Waburundi wamechukua kazi nyingi za mjengo. Nataka kuwavuruga; mimi ndiye nitawarudisha Burundi. Naskia ata security Waburundi wamekuwa wengi, na hawalipi tax. Tutaandikia wao barua.”
Her comments quickly generated mixed reactions, with some Kenyans supporting stricter labour regulations while others criticised the remarks as divisive.

KRG The Don: ‘Kenya Is International’

Responding to the debate, KRG The Don said Kenya has always been a welcoming country and warned against encouraging hostility towards foreigners seeking livelihoods.
“Kuna waheshimiwa hawajui dunia inaenda wapi. Wacha Waburundi watafute riziki yao,” he said.

The musician argued that Kenya has built a reputation as a regional hub that accommodates people from across Africa.

“Kenya ni nchi ambayo ni international. Inawelcome watu wengi. Kenya ni headquarters ya Africa.”
He further criticised attempts to encourage Kenyan workers to compete for low-paying jobs.

“You cannot be inciting citizens of this republic waanze kupigana na watu wa nchi jirani ambao wamekuja kutafuta riziki ya watoto wao kwa nchi yetu.”

KRG also questioned why leaders would encourage competition for jobs paying between KSh300 and KSh700 a day instead of creating opportunities that improve citizens’ living standards.
