Police keep curious members of the public away at the scene where a body was discovered in a shallow grave on Monday/Musembi Nzengu.A human body was discovered protruding from a shallow grave in Mwingi town, Kitui county, on Monday.
Following the discovery of the decomposing body in Mwingi town near Kasina Primary School, police officers moved in and cordoned off the area, saying it would remain off bounds until homicide and pathologists arrive to assess and examine the site.
Kitui Senator Enoch Wambua urged security apparatus to investigate possible dumping of a dead bodies in the area.
Wambua, who visited the scene on Monday, said there was a need for the town residents to know their neighbours so that they could able to identify any potential crime in Mwingi town after a resident goes missing.
"People should know their neighbours. People can come from outside and spoil our town which was previously appealing thus making business people prospecting to set businesses in Mwingi avoid the town due to insecurity," he said.
Wambua said cases of insecurity in the town would also discourage investor confidence, leading to loss of business opportunities for residents and visitors.
On Wednesday last week, Kitui Woman Representative Irene Kasalu raised alarm over the increasing cases of femicide in Kitui Central subcounty, calling on security agencies to take swift action to arrest those responsible.
Kasalu claimed at least four women were raped, brutally murdered, and their bodies dumped in bushes over the past three months, creating fear among residents.
She criticised the police for what she described as inadequate efforts to address the disturbing trend, suggesting that a serial killer could be behind the crimes.
"There are a number of women who have been raped and gruesomely murdered. I want to urge the police to ensure that the perpetrators are arrested and brought to justice."
The woman repfurther alleged that cases of rape and murder involving women have been reported almost every two weeks in Kitui Central over the past three months.
"It is unacceptable that women continue to lose their lives in such horrific circumstances while no arrests have been made."
Kasalu spoke during a meet-the-people tour of Voo/Kyamatu ward in Kitui East subcounty, where she is also seeking to popularise her 2027 gubernatorial bid.
