Juliette Awata, the woman who went viral after being stranded with a KSh 10,000 bill, has stirred speculations online after alleging that the amount charged exceeded the value of what she had actually consumed.
“And that’s how I ended up paying a 10k bill while I had only eaten 1,550. I was held for a while to produce him,” she shared.
From Facebook DM to a Rooftop Date
According to Awata, the guy had texted her earlier on Facebook requesting to go on a date with her. He had been constantly replying to her statuses, which eventually prompted her to join him for drinks at a rooftop in Sarit.
“I said it doesn’t hurt... Just bored in the house,” she recalled.
The pair reportedly appeared to be enjoying each other's company. After she found him drinking alone, he bought her a drink and fries before the situation took a turn.
“He pulled my chair close to him, and we were just trying to catch up. He threw a few compliments here and there, and I was smiling like a goat.”
The Vanishing Act
Juliette claims something like this had never happened to her before, so she obviously didn’t see it coming.
According to Awata, the guy received a call and excused himself, which seemed okay to her.“He told me he is sorting something over the phone, and I told him it's fine.”
As stated by Juliette, she is usually cautious about the people she chooses to go on dates with, but on this occasion, things turned out differently.“I thought I was being careful even this time!”
She claims it only dawned on her that the guy wasn’t coming back because it was getting late, only to find out that the guy had fled the scene.
Stuck with the Bill
Awata seemed particularly upset by the fact that the man departed without informing her and did not settle his share of the bill. She states that he wasn’t responding to her texts either, which eventually left her with no option but to settle the entire bill.
“And it was kind of embarrassing for me, and honestly, I didn’t want to put myself through that!!”
Upon reflection, Awata believes the man may have left because she was not his type, although she maintains that this was not a valid reason for his actions.
“So because I was not his type, that gave him the audacity not to pay for what he had personally eaten??”
