Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii has defended his development record and told off critics.

Bii said he has delivered tangible projects since he took over office in 2022, unlike his critics, whom he said failed to deliver anything during their time in office.

The governor said many projects have already been delivered with more on course for completion.

In an apparent attack on his predecessor Jackson Mandago, Bii said the previous administration left many stalled projects which he was struggling to complete.

Mandago is now the senator for Uasin Gishu and one of the governor's critics.

“They are the same people who are now going round claiming that I have not done anything, but I am sure residents of this county can clearly see my work,” Bii said.

He made the remarks at Kimumu in the county during ongoing distribution of bursaries in the region.

Bii said his critics were going round the county promising heaven to locals, yet they had not done anything in their current government positions.

“Some of them claim they will come to transform Eldoret as a city, but residents are aware that it's me who worked to have Eldoret upgraded to a city,” Bii said.

He said the county and the national government were undertaking projects worth over Sh1 billion on infrastructure in Eldoret.

Bii said his work will ensure he gets reelected in 2027. He has asked his rivals not to waste their money campaigning to unseat him.

The governor said his performance record will easily convince residents to re-elect him.

He said those campaigning against him are engaging in a futile mission.

“They should use their money wisely instead of engaging in an impossible mission to campaign against me. As of now, this county is locked until I complete my two terms in office,” Bii said.

The governor had recently cautioned some members of his staff, whom he claimed were part of a “one-term” brigade campaigning against him.

“Let those workers talking of one term for me know that I will not work with people who are bent on sabotaging me. I am watching them, and no one should complain when I decide to act,” he said.

There has been heightened political manoeuvring by rivals seeking the Uasin Gishu governorship.

Among those eyeing the seat are businessman Hezekiah Bundotich Kiprop Buzeki and Education PS Julius Bitok.

In recent months, two rival political camps have emerged in the county. They have openly schemed against each other and displayed rivalry at public gatherings.

Bii is aligned with Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi. The opposing faction is associated with Senator Mandago and other MPs.

Sudi has on several occasions declared at public meetings that residents will have a choice between what he describes as “Team A”, which he says is focused on work, and “Team B”, which he accuses of engaging in empty rhetoric and propaganda.
