Amos Amenya produced a strong finish to stop Abdul Hakim in the sixth round of their Super-Featherweight contest and headline the third edition of the SportPesa Boxing Rising Stars event at the DStv MultiChoice Studios, ASK Showgrounds, Jamhuri.
The eight-bout card, organised by UFS BXNG and sponsored by SportPesa, delivered an entertaining evening marked by several technical knockout victories as emerging fighters continued to showcase their potential.
Amenya and Hakim were evenly matched for much of the contest before Amenya stepped up the pressure to force a stoppage in the final round and secure victory.
SportPesa Partnership and Sponsorship Manager Japheth Akhulia hailed the competitive nature of the matchups, saying the platform is helping to identify and nurture future boxing stars.
“One of the most unique things with the SportPesa Boxing Rising Stars is the balance of power,” Akhulia said.
“The boxers who are properly matched up are such a joy to watch. Each has equal chances to showcase their talents as they take part on the unique platform whose mission is to identify new talents.”
He urged boxing fans across the country to attend the events, noting that several fighters competing in the series have the potential to achieve greater success in the sport.
SportPesa Head of Global Sponsorships Alan McTavish said this year's calendar was structured to provide opportunities for both upcoming and established fighters.
“We settled on a calendar that has six Rising Stars events and three Main events. This gives us good coverage across the calendar year and a strong platform for a mixture between upcoming young boxers and more established professionals,” McTavish said.
Elsewhere, 21-year-old Jin Shen continued his impressive start to professional boxing by stopping Elias Njoroge in the second round of their bantamweight bout.
The victory marked Shen’s second consecutive win in the SportPesa Boxing Rising Stars series after defeating Jeremiah Abuko on points during his debut appearance in February.
Shen attributed the win to his preparation and conditioning.
“I was able to flawlessly overcome Njoroge because of the strength and conditioning tactics that I mastered perfectly at my gym in Dagoretti,” he said.
“I’m looking forward to maintaining the same script and rhythm as I build on my boxing portfolio.”
He also praised SportPesa and UFS BXNG for creating opportunities for young boxers to gain exposure and experience.
