MEMBERS of the National Assembly will on Tuesday resume sittings with a focus on the 2026-2027 budget-making process, key revenue-sharing bills and other pending legislations.
MPs will also join President William Ruto in marking this year’s National National Prayer Breakfast scheduled on Thursday at Safari Park Hotel in Nairobi.
The prayer breakfast hosted by Parliament is an annual non-partisan gathering that brings together political, religious, and business leaders to pray for the nation and foster unity.
The lawmakers have been on a month-long recess.
The committees have, however, remained active during the recess period mainly handling ministerial budget estimates.
“Additionally, members had an opportunity to engage with constituents as part of their representative role,” a statement from Parliament reads.
Top on the agenda will be the Report of the Budget and Appropriations Committee on the annual estimates for the National Government for the 2026-2027 financial year.
The report is expected to be tabled on June 2 and will pave the way for debate on the Appropriation Bill, 2026 and the Finance Bill, 2026.
The House will also consider Senate amendments to the Division of Revenue Bill, 2026 and the County Allocation of Revenue Bill, 2026 once they are received from the Senate.
The Division of Revenue Bill provides for the allocation of revenues raised nationally between the two levels of government, national and counties.
The National Assembly passed the Revenue Bill in March 2026.
“Upon receipt of the Bill from the Senate, the National Assembly will prioritise its’ consideration to ensure conclusion within the statutory timelines,” the statement reads.
This will be followed by the pronouncement of the Budget Policy Highlights and revenue-raising measures for the 2026/2027 financial year on June 11.
This is in line with the Public Finance Management Act and the East African Community’s synchronised budget calendar.
The House will also consider nominee for appointment as Kenya’s High Commissioner to Ottawa, Canada.
Earlier, the lawmakers okayed a 14-day extension for the committee handling the matter, with the report expected to be tabled on May 26.
Lawmakers are also expected to deliberate on a petition seeking the degazettement of sections of four public forests in South Nandi, Turbo, Mount Elgon and Kakamega forests.
Several major Bills are also lined up for consideration, including the Finance Bill, 2026, which proposes amendments to various tax laws, and the Central Bank of Kenya (Amendment) Bill, which seeks to give the National Assembly powers to approve Deputy Governors of the Central Bank.
“The Bill (Central Bank of Kenya Bill) also provides that the Central Bank may give loans to banks for the purpose of financial stability and emergency liquidity,” the statement indicates.
Other Bills include the Microfinance Bill, 2026, the Quality Healthcare and Patient Safety Bill, and the Kenya Judiciary Academy Bill.
The Microfinance Bill is a repeal and re-enactment of the legal framework governing the microfinance institutions.
Quality Healthcare and Patients Safety Bill, on the other hand, seeks to establish framework to promote quazzlity of healthcare in Kenya by enacting standards, accreditation mechanism and ensuirng the protection and promotion of patient rights.
In the Kenya Judiciary Academy Bill, lawmakers seeks to establish Kenya Judiciary Academy which shall the principle institution responsible for implementing and coordinating the continuing education and training judges, judiciary staff.
The House will additionally consider several agreements and sessional papers, among them the IGAD Protocol on Transhumance, the National Petroleum Policy and the National Energy Policy 2025.
Petitions on illicit alcohol, Miwani Sugar land ownership disputes, haemophilia funding and the Nairobi Rivers Commission Project in Kangemi and Dagoretti are also pending before various committees.
