Kenya is in mourning following the death of veteran sports commentator Diblo Kaberia, popularly known as 'El Mago'. The news has triggered an outpouring of grief across social media, with fans and colleagues celebrating a man who defined an era of sports broadcasting.

Diblo was a pioneering presenter at Radio Jambo who helped build the station’s brand from its early days. He was best known for his high-energy commentary and his signature "Goal Rush" announcements.

The Legend of Guatemala
Beyond his technical expertise, Diblo was loved for his humour. He frequently told stories of his supposed professional football career in Guatemala. He claimed he was so good that he was nicknamed 'El Mago' (The Magician).
"I used to be given the Man of the Match award on the eve of the game... women used to camp outside my residence shouting 'El Mago!'” he said during a past on-air chat.
While these stories were often told with a wink, his former colleague Toldo Kuria once defended Diblo’s talent. Kuria suggested that Diblo was a genuine player who could have reached the national team, Harambee Stars, had his skills been properly scouted.

Diblo’s impact went beyond the microphone. He was known as a mentor to younger journalists entering the industry. Former workmate Fred Arocho described him as a "brother, confidant and former workmate," calling it a "sad day indeed."

Diblo’s passion for sports began early. He started commentating while still a pupil in Standard Six. He eventually achieved his dream of becoming a professional sports analyst, earning a reputation for keeping listeners "riveted to their radios."
