City Tycoon Chris Obure/HANDOUTA Nairobi-based aviation and real estate company linked to businessman Chris Obure has filed a suit at the High Court seeking compensation amounting to Sh 7.6 billion over a disputed eviction from office premises in Nairobi.
SBS Dunhill Group (EA) Limited lodged the case at the Commercial and Tax Division of the High Court against a landlord and and an auctioneer.
In court documents, the company claims it entered into a lease agreement in 2017 for office space in Nairobi’s Kilimani area.
The firm states that it later undertook renovations and installed additional facilities at the premises following what it describes as assurances that it would eventually acquire the property.
According to the pleadings, the company claims it paid more than Sh981 million to the landlords and incurred additional expenditure on renovations, architectural works and related installations.
The company further states that disagreements later arose between the parties, resulting in proceedings before the Business Premises Rent Tribunal.
In the suit, SBS Dunhill alleges that auctioneers, accompanied by police officers and other individuals, carried out an eviction from the premises on May 16, 2025.
The firm also claims that some property and valuables allegedly kept at the offices could not be accounted for following the eviction exercise.
Among the items referenced in the court filings are gold bars which the company alleges were stored at the premises.
The company is seeking various reliefs from the court, including compensation linked to the alleged loss of property, payments it claims were made to the landlords, renovation expenses, business losses, damages and legal costs.
The allegations are contained in court pleadings that have been filed before the High Court and have not been determined by the court.
