Kibwezi West MP Mwengi Mutuse on Friday took the “tutam” re-election campaign to Mwingi West constituency.
He urged residents to support President William Ruto’s bid for a second term in next year’s General Election.
“Be wiser and support the political direction your Member of Parliament has taken by working with the President’s side. That is the team that will carry the day in the 2027 General Election,” Mutuse told residents.
He was speaking at Nzuli Secondary School during the handover of a school bus acquired through the Mwingi West NG-CDF office.
The event was hosted by Mwingi West MP Charles Nguna, popularly known as CNN, who has defied his Wiper Party leadership by cooperating with President Ruto’s administration.
Mutuse said it was almost certain that President Ruto would secure a second term.
“In 2022, President Ruto single-handedly defeated a coalition of political heavyweights led by then-President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga. How much easier will it be now that he enjoys the advantage of incumbency?” posed Mutuse.
He urged the people of Mwingi West to look beyond regional political loyalties and support Ruto’s re-election, arguing that this would enable the area to continue benefiting from government development projects.
“You should not support a political party blindly simply because it is fronted by someone from your area. Political parties alone do not deliver development or services to the people,” said the Maendeleo Chap Chap Party legislator.
Mutuse credited Nguna’s close working relationship with the national government for reviving stalled projects and initiating new ones in the constituency.
The MP cited the tarmacking of the Kwasiku-Mbondoni road, the construction of a modern market at Kakongo, and the planned Sh40 billion mega dam at Karura.
He also called on Mwingi West voters to reward Nguna with a third term in office in 2027, saying the MP’s decision to work with the government had opened doors for development in the constituency.
Mutuse further urged residents to reject leaders being imposed on them as Nguna’s replacement, saying the current MP had demonstrated commitment by seizing every available opportunity to lobby for development for his constituents.
Nguna said he had no regrets about working with the Kenya Kwanza government, insisting that the benefits of the partnership were already visible across the constituency.
“I am confident I still have your support. You will reward development, not empty rhetoric. Last time you gave me more than 20,000 votes, but next year I believe you will give me over 40,000 votes and shame my rivals,” Nguna said.
