Police in Kibra Sub-County, Nairobi, have arrested a suspected drug trafficker in an intelligence-led raid that led to the recovery of 86 rolls of bhang.
According to the National Police Service, the operation was conducted by officers from Kibra Police Station in the Lindi area after acting on credible intelligence reports linking the suspect to ongoing drug trafficking activities in the neighbourhood.
The raid formed part of wider efforts to dismantle local drug supply chains that have been blamed for fuelling substance abuse and related crime in urban settlements.
During the operation, officers stormed the suspect’s premises, where he was allegedly found preparing narcotics for distribution.
"The raid caught the suspect completely off guard, with officers finding him actively rolling sticks of cannabis sativa, preparing the narcotics for distribution," the authorities said.
A search conducted at the scene led to the recovery of multiple exhibits linked to narcotics distribution.
"Officers recovered 86 rolls of cannabis sativa prepared in cigarette-sized form and ready for street distribution, approximately 200 grams of unprocessed cannabis sativa, 48 pieces of cannabis cakes believed intended for sale in the area, and 25 rolling papers commonly used in the preparation and packaging of cannabis products," the service revealed.
Authorities described the arrest as a breakthrough in ongoing efforts to curb the spread of narcotics.
The suspect is in custody at Kibra Police Station pending arraignment in court.
Investigators say they are pursuing further leads to determine whether the suspect is part of a wider distribution network operating within Nairobi and beyond.
The NPS noted that drug trafficking remains a major security and social concern, warning that traffickers continue to target vulnerable communities.
"Across Kenya, drug trafficking and substance abuse have become more than just a criminal enterprise — they have turned into a social catastrophe, leaving behind addiction and violence, fuelling crime, destroying families, and robbing communities of peace," the agency stated.
Police further stated that intelligence-led operations will continue across the country as part of a sustained crackdown on narcotics supply chains, alongside intensified community policing initiatives aimed at encouraging members of the public to report suspicious activities through available emergency reporting channels.
The latest arrest adds to a series of similar operations targeting drug peddlers in Nairobi as security agencies intensify efforts to combat substance abuse in urban communities.
