The seized narcotics worth an estimated Sh2.19 million in a coordinated anti-drug operation in Mombasa County/DCI

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has arrested two suspects and recovered narcotics worth an estimated Sh2.19 million in a coordinated anti-drug operation in Mombasa County, as authorities intensify the crackdown on trafficking networks across the country.

In a statement, the DCI said officers from the Anti-Narcotics Unit, working jointly with county security teams, acted on intelligence that led them to a rented house in Kwa Hola village, which was allegedly being used as a drug storage and distribution point.

“Acting on credible intelligence, detectives moved in swiftly and successfully dismantled what we believe was an active narcotics distribution hub operating within a residential area,” the DCI said.

During the raid, officers arrested two individuals suspected of running the operation.

A search of the premises led to the recovery of 902 rolls of cannabis sativa, carefully packaged in khaki paper and ready for distribution. The consignment weighed approximately 300 kilogrammes.

Detectives also seized three kilogrammes of skunk packaged in sachets, and about 300 grammes of heroin. The agency said the seized drugs had an estimated street value of Sh2.19 million.

According to investigators, additional items recovered at the scene, including a digital weighing scale and packaging materials, pointed to a structured narcotics supply chain.

“The recovery of weighing equipment and packaging materials clearly indicates a well-organised network involved in processing, packaging and distributing illegal drugs to different markets,” the DCI said.

The suspects were escorted to a police station for processing as investigations continue, while the recovered exhibits were secured for forensic analysis and court proceedings.

The DCI said the operation forms part of a sustained national crackdown on drug trafficking syndicates, which have been targeted in recent weeks across major urban centres and coastal towns.

This latest operation follows a similar crackdown in Nairobi’s Lang’ata area on May 8, where anti-narcotics officers recovered a large consignment of cannabis sativa during a raid on a residential property believed to be part of a wider distribution network.

In that earlier incident, detectives uncovered several sacks of cannabis, weighing equipment and packaging materials, further pointing to organised supply chains operating within residential estates.

“The fight against drug trafficking networks remains a top priority. We are dismantling these syndicates piece by piece, and those involved will face the full force of the law,” the agency said.

The DCI urged members of the public to continue sharing information on suspected drug activity, saying community cooperation remains key in identifying and disrupting trafficking networks before they spread further.

Authorities have maintained that intelligence-led operations will continue across the country as part of efforts to curb drug abuse and dismantle organised criminal groups involved in the illicit trade.
