He beat Edward Masembe of APS Bomet, who managed one goal, eight inteceptions and three clean sheets in three matches and Police goalkeeper Daniel Ogembo, who kept four clean sheets out of four and made 13 claims for a 72 per cent efficiency.
“First of all, I would like to thank God for this opportunity. It has not been easy but I thank my teammates, the technical bench and everyone involved at Nairobi United. This is an award for the whole team because without them, I would not have achieved it,” Wangaya said.
Wangaya enjoyed a standout month in which he consistently made decisive contributions, scoring early goals and providing assists as Nairobi United continued their push for a strong finish in the league campaign.
The midfielder revealed that mental preparation and discipline have played a key role in his performances.
“I think it is all about preparation, both mentally and physically. You have to work hard to get results. For me, it is about working hard and putting God first,” he said.
Despite joining Nairobi United only a few months ago, Wangaya has quickly established himself as one of the side’s most influential players. Traditionally viewed as a creative midfielder, he has added goals to his game and emerged among the club’s top scorers this season.
“For me, the most important thing is being on the pitch and helping the team. I can play anywhere and I just want to deliver results,” he added.
Nairobi United remain in contention for a respectable finish in the league and Wangaya insisted the squad remains focused despite the challenges of the season.
“Every game counts and we are still focused on our goals for the season. We are working hard to get the three points in every match,” he said.
The former youth international also spoke about his ambitions of breaking into the senior national team, saying patience and consistency would be crucial as he targets a place in Kenya’s squad for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
“For now, I just want to keep my head down and continue working hard. I pray for strength to keep improving every day. I believe the rest will come through hard work,” he noted.
Wangaya welcomed the growing impact of young players in the league, saying the current season has shown that emerging talents can thrive when given opportunities.
“This season has shown that young players are ready to perform and prove themselves. They just need opportunities to play in the Premier League,” he said.
The midfielder dedicated the award to his family, teammates, fans and members of his community who have supported his journey.
“I would like to dedicate it to my mum, my dad, my whole family, my teammates, the fans and everyone who has supported me,” he said.
Looking ahead, Wangaya said his ultimate dream is to compete at the highest level in Europe while also representing Kenya on the continental stage.
“My ultimate goal is to play at the highest level possible, especially in Europe’s top five leagues,” he said.
