Two senior police officers have been arrested in Eldoret after a scuffle and shootout at a nightclub in the city, according to police reports.

One of them is an OCS while the other is attached to a police station in Eldoret city.

Over Sh800, 000 in various currencies were recovered from the officers during the scuffle, which attracted members of the public who attacked them.

A police OB entry at the Eldoret police station indicates that the incident was reported at 2340 hrs by one Peter Mugo, who is a manager at a nightclub.

He reported that at around 1230 hrs, two male adults entered the said establishment and ordered some food and alcoholic drinks.

They continued enjoying their drinks until around 21:00 hours when an altercation arose between them and a waiter.

They became violent, and one of them drew a pistol and fired one round of ammunition.

The bouncers at the said establishment acted swiftly and disarmed the officer who had a gun.

Police officers were informed of the incident where the OCS Eldoret police station led a contingent of police officers who visited the scene where the two persons were arrested.

A pistol make ceska loaded with 14 rounds of 9mm, was secured from the staff of the said establishment.

One spent cartilage was also recovered from the scene.

A further search on them, the following were recovered: Sh 673,000/=, 5 euros, 15 USD and 10 narodowy zloty (Polish currency).

During the time of the incident, the suspects were slightly injured by members of the public and sustained facial injuries.

They were both escorted to the Eldoret police station for questioning. Both were booked at the cells awaiting further police action.

Uasin Gishu DCI boss Daniel Muleli confirmed the incident and said it was under investigation.
