Rolls of Bhang/DCI XA suspect has been arrested in Kilifi county following an anti-narcotics crackdown in which 150 rolls of bhang were recovered, authorities have confirmed.
The arrest was carried out by detectives from the Anti-Narcotics Unit, acting on what they described as credible intelligence pointing to the suspect’s alleged involvement in the possession and distribution of illegal narcotics within the area.
According to investigators, officers moved to the suspect’s residence, where a coordinated search operation was conducted.
"Acting on credible intelligence, the detectives raided the suspect’s residence, where a thorough search led to the discovery and seizure of the narcotics," a statement by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) stated.
During the search, officers recovered 150 rolls of bhang, which are believed to have been prepared for distribution. The seized items were secured as exhibits for ongoing investigations.
The incident comes weeks after another intelligence-led operation in the Talau area of Trans Nzoia County, where officers uprooted two sacks of suspected bhang from a residential compound and arrested a 22-year-old suspect.
The operation was conducted by the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) in collaboration with the National Police Service, as part of ongoing efforts to curb drug trafficking and protect young people from substance abuse.
Speaking after the Talau operation, NACADA Chief Executive Officer Anthony Omerikwa said the Authority had strengthened intelligence gathering and multi-agency coordination to respond to drug-related activity across the country.
“This operation is a direct result of actionable intelligence and seamless collaboration between NACADA and law enforcement. Our message is clear: we are watching, and we will not allow our children to become collateral damage in the profit-driven schemes of traffickers,” Omerikwa said.
In the Talau raid, officers recovered two sacks of bhang from a residential compound before arresting the 22-year-old suspect believed to be connected to the cultivation.
A resident from the area, who requested anonymity, commended the enforcement action and said awareness campaigns had improved community vigilance.
“We now know what to look for and where to report. NACADA’s presence has given us courage. Today’s operation proves that our voices are being heard,” the resident said.
The Authority said public participation remains key in identifying and preventing drug-related activities and urged members of the public to report suspicious incidents through official channels.
The ongoing crackdown forms part of a broader national strategy aimed at reducing the circulation of illegal drugs and mitigating the social and health impacts associated with substance abuse.
