
Detectives in Ithanga, Murang’a County are investigating an incident in which a farmhand is reported to have attacked and killed a seven-year-old girl.
Police said the assailant also assaulted and seriously injured the girl’s grandmother before fleeing the scene. The motive of the attack, which occurred on May 7, was not immediately established, police said.
The girl’s body was found inside a house and moved to the mortuary for autopsy and other procedures. Police said the two were the only occupants in the house at the time of the incident.
Officers visited the scene and said they are hunting for the suspect for questioning and further action.
Elsewhere in Ramula village, Siaya County, police are investigating the murder of an 88-year-old woman whose body was discovered in her house.
The incident occurred on May 7, and the deceased, identified as Leonida Ogolla Adet, was found naked on her bed long after the incident, police said. The motive of the killing is yet to be established.
Police said a hole was noticed in the sitting room of the house, which is suspected to have been used by the assailant(s) to access the home.
The body was moved to a mortuary pending autopsy and other procedures. Police also recovered a kitchen knife set on the bed, which is being analysed.
In Kithyoko, Machakos County, a 36-year-old man was killed after an attack by people said to be known to him. Police said three men known to the deceased picked him from his house and frog-marched him to a local shopping centre, where he was lynched over allegations that he was a livestock thief.
The body was moved to the mortuary pending autopsy and further procedures.
In Kasala, Kitui County, the body of a woman who had been reported missing was found inside a house. The deceased, identified as Ruth Mukulwe, 58, was discovered on May 7 lying in a pool of blood.
Police officers who visited the scene forced entry into the house and found the body with multiple injuries on the head, which are suspected to have been inflicted using a blunt object.
Neighbours said she lived with her son, who has not been seen. The body was moved to the mortuary pending autopsy and investigations.
In Mosocho, Kisii County, a 34-year-old man died following a suspected assault incident. Police said they arrested a suspect in connection with the incident on May 7 involving Kebon Okumu.
The man is said to have collapsed and died outside his house following earlier assault claims.
Police said the suspect was arrested after some locals attempted to lynch him. He reportedly ran to a police station where he was detained pending questioning and possible arraignment. Police said investigations into the murder are ongoing.
