
At least four people were critically injured after two boats carrying 19 people collided and capsized at Kilindi in Lamu County on Friday morning.
According to the Kenya Red Cross, the incident left several passengers injured, triggering an emergency response involving rescue teams and local divers.
The humanitarian agency said four casualties with critical injuries were evacuated to King Fahad Hospital for specialised treatment.
Another 14 people who sustained minor injuries were treated at the scene.
“Kenya Red Cross Action Teams, Community Disaster Responders and local divers responded to the incident,” the organisation said in a statement.
Emergency responders moved swiftly to rescue passengers and provide first aid following the accident in the coastal area.
The cause of the collision had not been established by the time of publication.
The Kenya Red Cross said response efforts were ongoing following the morning incident, adding that “more to follow” as authorities continue assessing the situation.
