At least four people are feared trapped after an eight-storey building under construction partially collapsed in the Ole Nairi area of Oloolua Ward, Kajiado North, on Saturday morning.

Officials from the National Disaster Management Unit said the incident happened in the morning as construction was ongoing at the site.

A multi-agency team has been deployed to the scene, comprising the Kenya Red Cross Action Teams, the Kenya Police Service, the National Disaster Management Unit and the county government, with rescue operations currently underway and supported by an excavator.

Authorities said the situation is worsening and requires extreme caution as efforts continue to rescue the four believed to be trapped beneath the rubble.

The Kenya Red Cross said rescue operations are ongoing in Olenairi, Ololua Ward, adding that reports indicate four people may be trapped under the debris. It noted that heavy rains in the area are hindering the rescue mission.

"Rescue operations are ongoing following a building collapse in Olenairi, Ololua Ward, Kajiado County. Reports indicate that four people may be trapped under the debris," Kenya Red Cross said.

The incident comes weeks after four people were rescued after a building under construction collapsed in the Highrise area of Kibera, Nairobi.

The injured were taken to Mbagathi Hospital.

The latest incidents add to a string of building collapses in Nairobi in recent weeks.

On March 16, a building collapsed in the Blue Estate area of Shauri Moyo in Nairobi.

The Kenya Red Cross said the structure gave way adjacent to buildings being demolished on riparian land.
