President William Ruto has laid the foundation stone for the Doldol Huduma Centre in Laikipia North, saying the project will bring government services closer to residents who have for years travelled long distances to access key documents and services.
Speaking during the launch on Friday, Ruto said local leaders had informed him that residents were being forced to travel to Nanyuki to obtain national identity cards, birth certificates and other government services.
“Your leaders told me that if you wanted an ID, you had to go to Nanyuki. If you wanted a birth certificate, you had to go to Nanyuki. Today I have come here to start a Huduma Centre so that all government services can now be accessed here in Doldol,” Ruto said.
The President directed Public Service CS Geoffrey Ruku to ensure the facility is completed within three months and fully staffed to serve residents.
“We have agreed that within three months this Huduma Centre should be complete, government workers deployed, and residents stop suffering while looking for services,” he said.
The facility is expected to host an ICT hub and offer more than 168 government services, including applications for IDs, birth certificates and business registration services.
Ruto also used the tour to inspect ongoing development projects in Laikipia County as part of his administration’s push to expand access to public services and infrastructure in marginalised areas.
