Motorists using the Nairobi Expressway will enjoy temporary toll-free access along a section of the highway at night as construction works continue on Waiyaki Way.
In a public notice issued on Wednesday, Moja Expressway Company said the temporary arrangement will be in effect on Thursday and Friday nights between 9 pm and 6 am.
The company said the move is intended to ease traffic flow and facilitate ongoing construction works along Waiyaki Way between the General Accident Towers area and ICEA Lion Group.
“To facilitate ongoing construction along Waiyaki Way between GTC and ICEA Lion Group, a temporary toll-free arrangement on the Nairobi Expressway will be implemented,” the company said in the notice.
Under the arrangement, motorists entering the expressway through Haile Selassie Entrance A near Bunyala Roundabout will be allowed to exit at the Nairobi Westlands exit without paying toll charges.
The company, however, clarified that motorists must obtain an entry ticket at the Haile Selassie entrance station for the toll waiver to apply.
“Motorists are advised to use the Nairobi Expressway through Haile Selassie Entrance A with an entry ticket and exit free of charge at the Nairobi Westlands Exit,” the notice stated.
The toll-free arrangement will only apply to motorists using the specified entry and exit points during the stated hours.
“All other toll stations and routes will continue to operate under the normal tolling rules,” the company said.
Motorists have also been urged to follow traffic signage and cooperate with traffic marshals deployed along the diversion route to ensure smooth movement during the construction period.
The latest traffic management plan comes as road agencies and contractors continue works aimed at improving mobility along key roads within Nairobi’s central business district and Westlands corridor.
Waiyaki Way remains one of the busiest transport corridors in the city, connecting the Nairobi CBD to Westlands and the larger western region.
Traffic disruptions have become common in recent months due to ongoing infrastructure works, especially during peak hours and at night.
The Nairobi Expressway has increasingly been used as an alternative route by motorists seeking to avoid heavy traffic on major roads within the city.
Since its launch, the elevated highway has significantly reduced travel time between Mlolongo and Westlands, particularly for commuters travelling during rush hours.
Moja Expressway Company said it appreciates the understanding and cooperation of motorists during the temporary diversion period.
The company further advised road users requiring assistance to contact its customer service hotline during the exercise.
