KCB RFC have pitched camp in Kakamega ahead of Saturday’s Kenya Cup final against defending champions Kabras Sugar RFC at Kakamega Showground.

The seven-time champions are aiming to end Kabras’ dominance after playing second fiddle to the Sugarmen over the last four seasons. Kabras head into the clash on a remarkable 54-match unbeaten run stretching back to February 2022, when they lost 29-22 to KCB at Ruaraka.

Since then, the Kakamega-based side have won four consecutive Kenya Cup and Enterprise Cup titles. The two rivals last met in the 2024 Kenya Cup final, where Kabras secured a commanding 29-5 victory on home soil. KCB head coach Andrew Amonde believes his side is mentally prepared to challenge the champions

“We have grown a lot as a team this season. The boys understand what is at stake, and we are ready to put in a complete performance. Kabras are a strong side, but we’ve shown we can match them, and now it’s about executing our game plan on the day,” said Amonde.

KCB have also been boosted by the return of their sevens internationals, with Floyd Wabwire, George Ooro, Festus Shiasi, Samuel Asati and Vincent Onyala all available for selection. Captain Bob Muhati said the squad is fully focused on reclaiming the title.

“This is a moment we have worked hard for all season. The boys are locked in, the energy in camp is right, and we know what Kabras brings. But we also know what we are capable of. It is about discipline, execution, and showing up for each other for the full 80 minutes. We want that title, and we are ready to fight for it,” said Muhati.

KCB’s improvement this season was evident during the regular-season meeting between the two sides, where they held Kabras to a 10-10 draw before heavy rain forced the match to end prematurely.

Amonde is expected to rely on forwards Fidel Maina, Nick Okullo, Emmanuel Silungi, Wilhite Mususi, John Aswani and Sheldon Kahi, while Mike Wekesa, Isaac Njoroge and Muhati are expected to lead the backs division.
