The United Democratic Alliance has announced that its Electoral and Nomination Dispute Resolution Committee will be on standby to receive and determine complaints arising from the Ol Kalou parliamentary nominations scheduled for May 8.
In a notice issued on May 6, the party said all disputes relating to the Member of National Assembly nomination exercise in Ol Kalou Constituency must be filed within 24 hours after the declaration of results or the decision giving rise to the complaint.
The notice follows communication by the party’s National Elections Board confirming that the nominations will be conducted across all polling centres in the constituency.
“Notice is hereby given that the UDA Electoral and Nomination Dispute Resolution Committee shall be available to receive, hear and determine all disputes relating to the Ol Kalou Constituency Member of National Assembly nomination process,” the statement reads.
The party directed that complaints be submitted either physically or electronically through the official email address provided by the committee.
“All electoral disputes should be lodged before the ENDRC within twenty-four hours upon declaration of results or nomination decision giving rise to the respective dispute,” the notice states.
The move is aimed at ensuring that any grievances arising from the nomination exercise are addressed promptly to avoid prolonged disputes that could disrupt the party’s preparations for the by-election.
Political parties are required under Kenyan electoral laws to establish internal dispute resolution mechanisms to handle nomination-related complaints before aggrieved parties can escalate matters to external bodies such as the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission or the courts.
The Ol Kalou contest has attracted significant interest, with several aspirants seeking the party ticket ahead of the upcoming by-election in Nyandarua County.
Party primaries in Kenya often generate disputes, including allegations of irregularities in voting, tallying of results, or the eligibility of candidates, making dispute resolution committees a critical component of the nomination process.
By setting a strict 24-hour window, UDA aims to fast-track the resolution of disputes and maintain momentum in the electoral timeline.
The party has, in previous nominations, emphasised the need for transparency, fairness and adherence to its internal rules to ensure credible outcomes and strengthen confidence among aspirants and supporters.
The ENDRC is mandated to hear complaints, review evidence presented by parties involved and issue determinations within timelines set out in the party’s nomination rules.
