Kenya and Tanzania have deepened bilateral ties following a series of agreements signed during President William Ruto’s state visit to Dar es Salaam on May 4, 2026.
The deals focus on boosting trade, infrastructure and regional integration between the two East African neighbours.
Key highlights include plans to revive the Voi–Mwatate–Taveta railway line to ease cargo movement and cut transport costs.
Both countries also reported progress in border demarcation, with over 560 kilometres already marked and full completion expected by 2027.
In a move aimed at enhancing trade, the two nations committed to removing non-tariff barriers by June 2026.
Major infrastructure projects, including the Malindi–Bagamoyo highway, are expected to improve connectivity and spur economic growth.
The agreements also emphasise cooperation in tourism, energy and security, alongside a shared commitment to regional integration under the East African Community.
Leaders say the renewed partnership will strengthen economic competitiveness and foster stability across the region.
