Rhythmic desk banging: Applause style inTanzania Parliament

President William Ruto is currently addressing Tanzania Parliament as one of his agenda during his two-day visit to the country.

Ruto was welcomed by the highly charged House that was eager to listen to his speech.

He soon got into business, his speech received applause from time to time.

Unlike in Kenya, where applause is mainly through foot stamping, there was one common energetic rythm the was heard across the Parliament; desk banging.

Rhythmic desk banging is a primary method of showing approval is loudly and rhythmically beating on the wooden desks within the chamber.

Foot stamping in the Kenyan Parliament is a traditional, recognised method of showing approval, support, or agreement with a speaker, as clapping is often discouraged or prohibited within the chamber.
