Forward Jerine Adhiambo in the changing room with teammates/ HANDOUT

Mathare United Women forward Jerrine Adhiambo is already looking beyond celebration after guiding Mathare United Women back to the Kenyan Women’s Premier League.

Adhiambo insists the real task begins now as the newly promoted side prepares for the demands of top-flight football.

Fresh from sealing promotion out of the National Super League, she believes the achievement is a stepping stone rather than a destination. Mathare’s rise was built on a dominant and consistent campaign, sealing promotion with matches to spare after opening a significant points gap at the top.

A decisive 3-0 win over Gitothua underlined their authority, leaving the closest challengers trailing by an unassailable margin. Adhiambo acknowledged that expectations will rise sharply in the top tier, where consistency and mental strength will be key to survival.

“It is a great feeling going back to the Premier League with Mathare Women… it has not been an easy journey, but through teamwork and having a motivating coach, we managed to overcome the challenges that existed,” she said.

Her remarks reflected both relief and readiness. The forward, who previously featured in the top flight with Madira Soccer Assassins, is approaching the new campaign with a measured perspective. She pointed to lessons from that stint as crucial in helping Mathare adapt quickly, while stressing the need for composure against more structured opponents.

Balancing club ambitions with international goals, Adhiambo is also keen to turn top-flight exposure into national team progress, with her involvement in the Harambee Starlets U-20 serving as added motivation.

“People will be watching us keenly to see what we have to offer… it is a great opportunity for us to showcase our capabilities. Playing among the best will also increase our national team call-up chances,” she added.

As Mathare United Women step into a league defined by experienced and well-drilled sides, Adhiambo is positioning herself as a central figure in the transition—promising leadership, attacking efficiency and resilience as the club targets stability and long-term growth.
