The final moments between a mother and her children are often held in sacred silence, yet for the family of DJ Krowbar, one such moment has touched the hearts of thousands across Kenya.
Gospel DJ Karumba Ngatia, popularly known as DJ Krowbar, recently shared a poignant image on Instagram capturing the last time his children saw their mother, Joyce Wanjiru Karumba, alive.
A Final Encounter in the Ward
The shared image shows a tender scene within a hospital room. Joyce, affectionately known as Joy, lies in her hospital bed, surrounded by her three children: Toria, Riri, and Imani.
Despite the clinical setting, the atmosphere is one of connection rather than clinical coldness.
In the picture, Joy is seen looking toward her children with a gentle expression. One of the children leans in close, a hand resting near her mother on the bed, while the others sit nearby on colourful plastic chairs.

It is a snapshot of a normal family visit that, in hindsight, carried the weight of a final goodbye.
"The last time the kids saw their mother alive... Who would have known that would be their last time?” Krowbar captioned the picture.

Accompanying the emotional post, DJ Krowbar included a verse from James 4:14, reflecting on the fleeting nature of life: "You do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes."
He encouraged his followers to "dedicate our 'mists' to God," finding spiritual solace during the family's darkest hour.
Joyce passed away in the early hours of Monday, 26 January 2026, at approximately 3:00 a.m.. Her death followed a long and courageous battle with health complications.
Joy's medical journey was marked by immense strength. In mid-2025, she underwent a kidney transplant, a procedure the family hoped would mark a turning point in her health.
Although she initially showed signs of recovery and was even discharged home for two weeks, she was eventually readmitted as further complications and infections arose.

The family has been transparent about their struggles, previously sharing their story on various platforms to raise awareness and support for Joy’s treatment.Throughout the ordeal, Joy was remembered by those close to her as a woman of resilience and deep faith.
