
Police are investigating the killing of a four-year-old girl in Gesima village, Nyamira County.
The body of the girl was found in a deserted house on April 28, some time after the incident.
Police handling the matter said they were yet to establish the motive of the killing. The body had visible injuries on the head and face, while her clothes were torn.
The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy. No arrest had been made by Wednesday, but police said they were pursuing leads into the case. The girl had been staying with her grandmother in the area.
In a separate incident in Marafa, Kilifi County, a 56-year-old man, identified as Ruphus Muganga, was found dead outside his house.
His wife told police they were in the house when unknown people called him outside on Tuesday night.
She said she then heard him scream once. When she went to check, she found him lying in a pool of blood with severe injuries.
The motive of the killing was not immediately known, and the body was moved to the mortuary for an autopsy.
Police said they were pursuing those responsible for the incident.
In another incident, a 64-year-old man died after being attacked by a ram in Kibichoi, Kiambu County.
Police said the incident happened on April 28, when the victim, identified as Stephen Wagicio, was fatally injured.
Witnesses said the man was seated at a home when the ram attacked and knocked him down.
He sustained head injuries and was rushed to hospital, where he later died.
The body was moved to the mortuary pending further procedures.
Police visited the scene and confirmed the incident. The family said they were considering what action to take regarding the animal following the fatal occurrence.
Meanwhile, two suspects, identified as Evans Otieno Ongere and Abel Onyango Owuor, who were arrested in possession of a Phantom pistol along the Kisumu-Busia Highway, were presented before the Principal Magistrate’s Court in Vihiga, where detectives obtained a 14-day custodial order.
The recovered firearm is now at the National Forensic Laboratory for ballistic analysis, with police saying this forms part of efforts to establish whether it had been used in other incidents.
Another suspect, Christopher Okello, who was rescued from mob justice after being found in possession of a bow and arrow, was also arraigned and pleaded not guilty.
He was released on a bond of Sh100,000. The case is scheduled for mention on May 14, 2026.
