Nyanza Secondary Schools Sports Association Secretary (NRSSSA) Geoffrey Nyantika says digital verification of students will be from the Sub-County level to curb the fielding of ineligible players during term two games.
Fielding of ineligible players is rampant in term two games, especially football and volleyball.
Speaking to the Star on Friday, Nyantika said the Ministry of Education and the Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association are determined to end the culture of fielding ineligible players in the games.
“We shall strictly use the KSSSA portal to verify all teams from the Sub-County level. This is aimed at curbing cheating and impersonation before teams get to the county level,” said Nyantika.
He added: “Once vetting is done from the Sub-County and County levels, we shall have minimal cases at the regional level. However, vetting will also be done at the regional level by the KSSSA ICT team.”
He appealed to schools to ensure that they field genuine students during term two games, which will feature football, netball, volleyball, basketball 3x3, racquet games, and rugby 7s for both boys and girls.
During the national secondary schools term, one games, Education Principal Secretary Julius Bitok and Director of Field Services and Coordination Nelson Sifuna warned that the Teachers Service Commission could discipline teachers found culpable of fielding non-students during the games.
The 2026 term two games will start on May 23, at the zonal levels before proceeding to the Sub-County level on June 12 and 13.
The county games will be held from June 17 to 20, paving the way for regional games from July 8 to 11.
The national games will be held at M-Pesa Foundation Academy in Thika, Kiambu County, from July 26 to August 2.
The team that will qualify for the Federation of East Africa Schools Sports Association (FEASSA) will head straight to camp before leaving for Morogoro, Tanzania, for the regional showpiece.
The regional games which bring together schools from Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi and Tanzania, will be held from August 12 to 23.
At the same time, Homa Bay School will host the Nyanza region term two games. Other venues will be the Raila Odinga Stadium and Tom Mboya University.
