A 14-year-old boy died after being electrocuted inside a radio repair shop at Sindo Market in Suba Central subcounty in Homa Bay county.

Police officers who visited the scene found the body of the minor, a Grade 7 pupil at Sindo Primary School, lying inside the shop.

Preliminary findings indicate the boy had been electrocuted after allegedly breaking into the premises.

Investigations revealed that the shop owner had rigged a live electric wire across the back door as a deterrent against repeated break-ins.

It is believed the deceased came into contact with the live wire after gaining entry into the shop, leading to his death.

The scene was processed by officers and the body was moved to Suba Sub-County Hospital mortuary pending postmortem examination.

Police have launched investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident, including the legality and safety implications of the electrified setup.

Such incidents are caused by illegal power connections and use of quacks for wiring, officials say.

Elsewhere, a 20-year-old herdsman was killed after being struck by lightning in Kedong area, Mirera sublocation, Naivasha Sub-County, Nakuru county.

The incident occurred on April 26 at around 5:00pm, police and locals said.

According to the report, the deceased, identified as Daudi Mucha, was herding livestock back home from the grazing fields when the lightning struck, killing him instantly.

Police officers visited the scene, with preliminary findings confirming that the body had visible injuries consistent with a lightning strike.

The scene was processed and documented before the body was moved to Naivasha Sub-County Hospital mortuary, where it is being preserved pending an autopsy and further investigations.

Authorities have urged residents, especially those in open grazing areas, to take precautions during thunderstorms to avoid similar incidents.

The incidents have been on the rise in some areas amid calls to install gadgets to address them.

And police in Rachuonyo East Sub-County, Homa Bay county are investigating a suspected suicide after the body of a 67-year-old man who was found floating in River Miriu.

According to the police, the incident was reported on April 29 at around 1.25 pm. The body was discovered at Kolweny village, about 12km north of the station.

Police visited the scene and identified the deceased as Joseph Ayugi.

Preliminary examination revealed visible injuries on the face, with blood oozing from the nose and mouth. The injuries are believed to have been caused by aquatic animals.

Investigations indicate that the deceased had been in good health until April 28 when he reportedly left his home after writing a suicide note. His body was later discovered by neighbours, Grispine Ogweno and Nicholas Rachuonyo, floating in the river with a rope tied around his neck.

The scene was processed and documented by crime scene personnel, and the body was moved to Jawabu Funeral Home, where it awaits a postmortem examination to establish the exact cause of death.
