Kisii Senator Richard Momoima Onyonka is bereaved following the death of his mother, Teresia Nyaboke Omoke, who passed away at the age of 81.
In a statement, Onyonka said his mother died while undergoing treatment at the Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi.
“I regret to announce the passing on of my beloved mother, Mama Teresia Nyaboke Omoke, who departed this life today at the age of 81 years while receiving treatment at the Aga Khan Hospital, Nairobi,” Onyonka said in a statement.
Mama Teresia was born on Christmas Day in 1944. The family described her as a devoted mother, a pillar of strength, and a woman of great faith, humility and wisdom.
The Senator said his mother lived a life of grounded service, compassion, and unwavering dedication to her family and community.
“Her passing is a profound loss not only to our family but also to those whose lives she touched through her kindness, guidance, and enduring love. She was the heart of our home, and her legacy will continue to inspire us,” Onyonka said.
He said funeral arrangements will be communicated in due course.

“On behalf of my family, I extend our sincere gratitude for the prayers and messages of comfort we have received and will continue receiving during this difficult time. We kindly ask for your prayers as we come to terms with this great loss,” he added.
Borabu MP Patrick Osero sent his condolences to Senator Onyonka, the people of Kitutu Chache South and Kisii County following the loss of Mama Teresia.
“I send my heartfelt message of condolence to my brother, the Senator of Kisii County Richard Onyonka, his family and constituents and pray to God to give them fortitude as they mourn this big loss. The death of a mother leaves a huge hole in our hearts, but I want to encourage Mama Teresia family during these difficult moments. May she rest in peace,” Osero said.
Kitutu Chache South MP Anthony Kibagendi described the late Teresia as a neighbour and a dedicated community leader, particularly within the Catholic Women's Movement, saying the loss is a tragedy to the community.
“I received the tragic news coming at a time when Mama had just celebrated her 81st birthday. This is a big loss to the people of my constituency and especially the Catholic Church, where she was a dedicated member of the women's movement known as ‘Mama Mkatoliki’,” Kibagendi said.
