Former President Uhuru Kenyatta arrives in Accra, Ghana ahead of the high-level Tana Forum on Security in Africa / HANDOUTFormer President Uhuru Kenyatta on Monday evening arrived in Accra, Ghana ahead of the high-level Tana Forum on Security in Africa.
It is a key continental platform that convenes African leaders and stakeholders to deliberate on African-led solutions to peace, governance, and regional security challenges.
Uhuru, who joined the Tana Forum Board in 2024, is among a select group of former African heads of state entrusted with the strategic oversight of the institution.
His inclusion reflects his growing role in continental diplomacy, particularly under the auspices of the African Union, where he serves as a peace envoy and mediator.
He has been actively engaged in regional peace processes, especially in the Horn of Africa and the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), where he has played a key role in negotiations aimed at restoring stability and addressing protracted conflicts.
Upon arrival in Accra, Uhuru was received by Kenya’s High Commissioner to Ghana Colonel (Rtd) Shem Ishmailidza Amadi.
The Tana Forum is widely regarded as one of Africa’s premier platforms for dialogue on security and governance, bringing together heads of state, policymakers, civil society actors, and experts to shape policy responses to emerging and persistent challenges across the continent.

It is comprised of eminent African personalities who have demonstrated leadership, inspiration and experience in their fields of endeavour. The membership of the Board shall demonstrate regional, gender, intergenerational and cross-sectoral representation.

In particular, the Technical Committee aims to advise the Secretariat on the process and content to strengthen the Forum’s capacity to generate fruitful discussions on peace, conflict and security for all stakeholders involved.
