Global poverty: Millions affected across multiple dimensions/WILLIAM WANYOIKE

An analysis of the 2025 United Nations Multidimensional Poverty Index reveals that millions of individuals face overlapping challenges that extend into every facet of daily life.

According to data, the most pervasive indicator of multidimensional poverty is the reliance on solid fuel for cooking, which affects 970 million people.

This reliance often correlates with broader infrastructure deficits, as evidenced by the 878 million people living in inadequate housing and the 830 million who lack basic sanitation services.

Health and nutrition remain critical areas of concern, with 635 million people suffering from inadequate nutrition.

Education also presents a significant hurdle, as 487 million children are currently missing out on school through grade eight.
