Consolata Githinji, a 22-year-old Murang’a University studentA 22-year-old university student who died after falling from the sixth floor of a short-stay apartment in Kileleshwa, Nairobi, had met her lover on a popular dating site.
The student, who was also an influencer identified as Consolata Githinji, popularly known as “Connie,” died on Sunday morning after falling from the high-rise building.
Police said it was her first meeting with a man who is now in custody over her death.
The man is cooperating with investigators, officials said.
She was a student at Murang’a University College.
Consolata had travelled to Nairobi for the meeting with the 33-year-old man, who works for a company selling women’s hair products.
It is not clear what transpired leading to her death. The man told police the woman jumped from the room.
According to police, the incident occurred on April 26, 2026, at around 5:00 a.m. They said she fell from the sixth floor of Block C and landed on the third basement level, sustaining fatal injuries.
Police noted visible injuries on the head, ribs, and hands.
Preliminary reports indicate that the deceased had been in the company of the man during the night of April 25–26, 2026, at the short-stay apartment.
Crime scene investigators documented and processed the scene before the body was moved to City Mortuary, Nairobi, for preservation pending an autopsy.
Police also confirmed that the man had been taken into custody as a person of interest to assist with ongoing investigations.
He was presented in court as police sought more time to detain him for further investigations. Detectives want to establish what transpired before the fatal fall.
There are suspicions the two may have fought in the room before the woman fell.
Security cameras captured her arrival with the man just minutes before chaos erupted inside the apartment.
By dawn, her body lay on the ground floor, while the man insisted she jumped.
Consolata arrived at 4:17 a.m. on Sunday with the man.
At 4:32 a.m., a disturbance broke out inside the unit.
The door flew open, and a guard entered briefly before leaving.
Consolata was last seen alive shortly after the guard’s departure. Her body was found at 5:30 a.m. on the ground floor.
The apartment had been booked by the man’s friend, not him. Earlier occupants—two women and one man—had checked out just before 4:00 a.m.
Her family and friends have demanded justice.
This is the latest such incident to occur in a short-stay apartment involving a woman.
