Detectives are investigating the death of a man whose body was discovered in a rented apartment in the Fisheries area of Bamburi, Mombasa.

According to police, the matter was reported by the owner of a short-stay room within the area after concerns were raised over a client who had checked in on April 24 and failed to check out at the agreed time.

The caretaker subsequently opened the room and found the lifeless body of an adult male lying on the bed, police said.

Officers who responded to the scene confirmed that the deceased was an unidentified adult male of Indian origin.

Preliminary information indicates that two men had booked the room the previous night. The circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear, and investigators have not yet determined any motive.

Upon examination, the body was found with minor scratches on the right hand, with no other visible injuries noted at the scene.

The body was transferred to the Coast General Hospital mortuary, where it is awaiting postmortem examination and formal identification.

Investigators have since documented the scene and commenced inquiries aimed at establishing the circumstances surrounding the death, including efforts to trace the second individual who is said to have checked in with the deceased.

In a separate development, police in Kilifi County have also launched investigations into the death of a bodaboda rider whose body was found in Watamu.

According to officers at Watamu Police Station, the matter was reported on the morning of April 25, 2026, after members of the public came across a lifeless body in the Watamu Market area.

Police who responded to the scene identified the deceased as Jimmy Ngonyo Hinzano, also known as Kipara, a 30-year-old bodaboda rider based in Watamu who resided in the Dabasokidogobasi area.

Officers said the body was found lying in a recovery position with a stab wound on the left side of the chest. His clothes were soaked in blood, while his mobile phone and slippers were recovered a few metres from where the body lay.

A witness told police that he heard people shouting that the deceased was a thief before the body was later discovered, though this account is part of ongoing investigations.

Investigators established that the victim is believed to have been attacked near the location where the alarm was raised before attempting to move away.

Blood stains were observed along a trail leading to where he eventually collapsed and died.

Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) officers from Malindi documented the scene and collected exhibits, including the deceased’s mobile phone.

The body was moved to Malindi Sub-County Hospital mortuary, where a postmortem examination is expected to be conducted.

Police said investigations have commenced to establish the circumstances surrounding the death and to identify those responsible.
