
Detectives in Kolenyo, Kisumu County, are investigating an incident in which a teacher was fatally stabbed at a bar by a person believed to be known to him.
The victim was identified as Laban Odero, 26, a teacher at Anyanga Primary School in the area.
The motive behind the fatal stabbing on April 25 was not immediately established. The assailant is reported to have fled the scene after the incident, police said.
The man was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival, police said, adding that the body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy.
He had sustained a stab wound to the chest.
According to witnesses who spoke to police, the two had been at the bar before a disagreement broke out, during which the assailant allegedly reached for a knife used in the attack. Police said the search for the suspect continued on Monday, April 27.
In a separate incident, police in Khwisero, Kakamega County, are investigating the killing of a 36-year-old man at his home.
The body was found with two stab wounds to the abdomen, police said, adding that the victim’s intestines were visible.
Neighbours reported hearing commotion from the house and, upon checking, found the deceased involved in an altercation with a person believed to be known to him.
They said the dispute was linked to allegations of theft of farm produce before the assailant allegedly stabbed him and fled. The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy, police said.
Elsewhere in Ekerenyo, Nyamira County, the body of a man aged about 60 was found along the roadside following a suspected murder.
The motive and those behind the incident were not immediately established, police said, adding that the body was taken to the mortuary after the discovery on Saturday.
No arrests had been made by Sunday morning as investigations continued. Police suspect the man may have been killed at the scene.
In another case, a 45-year-old man died after being trapped by a heap of soil in his compound in Milo area, Bungoma County.
Police said Saul Yabeko was digging out an ant-hill on April 25 when part of the soil gave way and trapped him fatally.
Police and residents retrieved the body and moved it to the mortuary pending an autopsy.
Meanwhile, police in Kwale County are investigating a separate killing reported in Shimba Hills Sub-County.
According to police, the incident occurred in Mirihini Village on the morning of April 25, 2026. Officers who visited the scene found the body of Nyale Genya Nyale, 43, lying on a mattress inside one of the rooms in his three-bedroom house.
Preliminary findings indicate that the deceased had sustained two deep cut wounds on the right side of the head.
His wife told police that the incident occurred at night after her husband asked her to step outside to check on their livestock.
Upon opening the door, she encountered an unidentified person wearing a veil, who asked about her husband’s condition following an earlier assault incident in Likoni on April 21.
She reportedly allowed the person into the house before going out to attend to the animals. Moments later, she saw the individual leaving and later heard her husband groaning inside the house.
On returning, she found him with serious head injuries.
The victim allegedly told her that the person she had let in was responsible for the attack.
Attempts to rush him to the hospital were unsuccessful as he succumbed to the injuries before receiving medical attention.
The body was moved to Kinango Sub-County Hospital mortuary, where a postmortem examination is expected to be carried out.
Police said investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend those behind the killing.
