In a deeply moving interview on the Tubonge Show with Chris the Bass, media personality Kamene Goro opened up about a harrowing near-death experience that redefined her perspective on life, faith, and relationships.

Speaking with raw honesty, Kamene described the moment she transitioned from a routine hospital visit to a fight for her very existence.

A Shocking Diagnosis That Changed Everything

The ordeal began with a terrifying medical prognosis. Kamene recalled waking up to the gravity of her situation:

“So, I open my eyes and I'm seeing this Asian man... He's like, 'So, now I want you to know we have but a few hours. When you came to the hospital, we had 12 hours. Now, I'm seeing we have about 4, 5, 6 hours.'”

When she asked, “Hours to what?” the doctor replied bluntly, “Hours of you being alive.”

The severity of her condition was staggering. Kamene revealed that she was suffering from a massive internal infection:

“My level of infection was so bad. They removed 5 litres of pus from my stomach. 5 lit.”

Inside the Life-Saving Surgery

The medical team had to take extreme measures to save her life after a less-invasive keyhole procedure failed.

Kamene described the drastic intervention:

“They removed all my organs... and they started putting everything back.”

Her experience in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and High Dependency Unit (HDU) exposed her to the fragility of life in a way few ever encounter.

The Only One Who Made It Out

Kamene shared the chilling reality of her hospital stay:

“Everyone I was in ICU with, I'm the one who came out... And I was the one who had the least odds of everyone. Everyone I was in HDU with, I'm the only one who came out.”

She recalled the haunting sight of coffins—“brown with golden handles”—being moved through the ward as she fought for her life around Valentine’s Day.

Faith, Pain and the Breaking Point

Beyond the physical battle, Kamene faced a deep spiritual struggle.

“You even ask God... give me a break... how strong do you think I am?”

Yet it was in this lowest moment that she began to see people—and life—more clearly.

Who Really Shows Up in Your Darkest Hour

One of the most powerful lessons came from recognising who stood by her side.

“Who's going to be there for you in your 11th hour? So shocked the people who would stand with you. The people who are there, not the people who I thought would be there.”

Her support system included her mother, her sister, her sister’s boyfriend, and close friends like Jalang'o.

But there was also a glaring absence.

Chris the Bass pointedly addressed this during the interview, stating, “One person was missing... Your husband wasn't there” while she was in the ICU and HDU.

Reflecting on this absence, Kamene admitted that the people she once considered her “bloody ride or die” were “probably not” the ones who showed up when it mattered most

“The one who you're saying is your bloody ride or die… yeah, probably not.”

Even as she battled for her life, her mother remained strong throughout, only breaking down once—when someone who owed Kamene money refused to pay despite her condition.

A New Outlook: Drop the ‘Trash’

Emerging from the experience, Kamene says her perspective on life and relationships has completely shifted.

Her message is direct and unapologetic:

“Do what makes you happy. Value the people who value you. And I know you know the trash in your life. Drop that trash. Just be happy.”

“Stupid Happy” — Life After Survival

Despite the trauma, disappointment, and hard truths uncovered during her recovery, Kamene says she has found a new sense of joy.

When asked by Chris the Bass if she is happy today, her answer was simple:

“Stupid happy.”
