Central Regional Commissioner Joshua Nkanatha addressing Gatura residents on April 24, 2026/ ALICE WAITHERACentral Regional Commissioner Joshua Nkanatha has said preparations have been made to welcome President William Ruto to Murang'a county.
The President will be on a two-day tour that will see him traverse five constituencies to commission, inspect and launch 17 development projects.
Nkanatha said though no challenges are expected, the regional security committee has ensured everything is in place for a successful vote.
While addressing residents of Gatura in Gatanga, Nkanatha said the regional security committee has gone round the projects that Ruto will visit for security purposes.
"We're happy that all is set. We're not anticipating anything because it's just a routine visit, and people love him as the Head of State. We're, however, appealing to locals to turn up in numbers to welcome him. We're privileged to host him," Nkanatha said.
On Friday, the President will launch Kagumo-ini- Gitugi- Karugia road, then lay a foundation stone at Kiambugi T-VET for the construction of students' hostels before heading to Murang'a town, where he will inspect the ongoing Sh800 million Mumbi stadium that will have a capacity to seat 10,000.
Afterwards, he will inspect the expansion of Kenneth Matiba hospital that is being overseen by the Kenya Defence Forces in Gatanga, then lay a foundation stone for an affordable housing project in Kandara town and inspect a last-mile connectivity project in the same area.

He will also launch construction of Kandara town- Karima Mwaro- Gatitu - Nguthuru and Gatiu- Njira Inya - Kaburugi- Kiberege roads in the same constituency.
On Saturday, he will be in Maragua to inspect Sabasaba and Ciumbu Economic Stimulus Programme markets before jetting back to Kandara to lay a foundation stone at the Sh366 million Kabati modern market, then back to Kigumo to commission the Sh342 million Kangari market.
He will then launch Kangari- Gacharage road before visiting Ndunyu Chege and Gatura markets in Gatanga.
Murang'a woman representative Betty Maina, who was holding an empowerment meeting, cautioned residents against opposition leaders fighting the government, saying they are still the ones who led the opposition against former president Uhuru Kenyatta.
"They led the fight against Uhuru because of his handshake with Raila. Now that Raila is not in the picture, how come things are not moving in their areas?" She wondered.
She claimed some opposition leaders have been riding on the development being effected by leaders affiliated with the government since they are unable to lobby for projects.

"Don't follow them. Allow us to work for you. If we fight bhang and illicit alcohol, we're fighting for the future of men," she said, urging locals to turn up in droves to welcome the President.
"Wear your cultural attire. Let's come out, young and old. Ask your families to come out and come with your drums," she told the women.
Nominated Woman Representative Sabina Chege, on her part, asked residents to wholeheartedly accept the goodies that the president will give them and take advantage of the meeting to lobby for more.
KICC chairperson Samuel Waweru, who comes from the area, appealed to locals not to make political decisions next year based on their emotions.
"It's important to ask yourself why you are angry. Let's ensure that when the elections come, we are sober as we make the decisions that we will have to live with for the next five years," he added.
