The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) has called for investigations into the death of advocate Tom Ouya Imbukwa, who is alleged to have been assaulted, tortured and killed by unknown persons.

LSK President Charles Kanjama called for a speedy probe, terming the incident a brutal attack on a member of the legal fraternity.

In a statement, Kanjama urged the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and the National Police Service to launch swift, effective and credible investigations into the incident.

“The Law Society of Kenya has learned with profound shock and grief of the tragic death of our colleague, Advocate Tom Ouya Imbukwa, following a brutal assault and torture. LSK appealed to Kenyans with any information on the alleged killing to come forward and share it with investigators, assuring them of their safety and anonymity.

Kanjama warned that should investigations reveal the involvement of state actors, those responsible must be held fully accountable.

“Your anonymity and safety will be protected. We call upon the National Police Service and the DCI to conduct swift, effective, and credible investigations. If state actors were involved in this torture and murder, there must be no sanctuary for them,” he added.

The society pledged to support Imbukwa’s family during the investigation and any subsequent legal proceedings, noting that it would determine additional steps once more details surrounding the killing emerge.

“We will not rest until those responsible are held accountable. Justice for Tom Ouya Imbukwa is not negotiable,” Kanjama added.

LSK has warned against threats, violence and intimidation targeting its members. The society reiterated its commitment to ensuring justice is served.

“We will not stand by as our members are targeted, tortured and killed. The hand of the law is indeed long, and we shall ensure it reaches those responsible for this atrocity,” he added.

A section of social media users has also called for a speedy probe into the death of the advocate.

"The recent murder of OuyaImbukwa Advocate at Harambee Sacco is utterly shocking. There is an urgent need for an investigation by the DCI's Homicide Unit. The perpetrators must be identified, arrested, and charged accordingly," Peter Wanyama said on X.
