Ulinzi Stars' Paul Okoth shields the ball from Bandari's Amza Ndayou during the first leg of the SportPesa League/ULINZI STARSBandari FC return to action this Saturday against Ulinzi Stars at Kwale Stadium, carrying more than just points on their minds as the season edges toward its conclusion.
For Bandari, the equation is clear — turn resilience into results. For Ulinzi, it is about sustaining momentum in a tightening survival race. The meeting presents a clash of contrasting ambitions, shaped by recent form and lingering narratives.
Head coach Bernard Mwalala has kept his message focused despite the noise surrounding his side in recent weeks.

“A top-five finish remains our objective as the season draws to a close,” Mwalala said ahead of the Round 30 encounter.
“We have put ourselves in a position where that target is realistic, but we must now turn draws into wins.”

Bandari sit ninth with 39 points, their campaign defined by defensive discipline but slowed by an inability to consistently convert performances into victories. Their recent 0–0 draw against Gor Mahia extended an unbeaten run to six matches, underlining their organisation at the back.
However, the aftermath of that match drew as much attention as the result itself. Tempers flared following a contentious decision, with Bandari players confronting the referee — scenes that prompted criticism.
Mwalala acknowledged the lapse while standing by his players.
“The reaction from my players was uncharacteristic and does not reflect who we are as a club,” he said. “I build my team on discipline and respect, and that remains non-negotiable.”
He also pointed to a run of contentious calls in recent matches but emphasised the need to maintain composure and focus.
Attention now shifts to the challenge posed by an in-form Ulinzi side under Mulinge Ndeto. The Soldiers have won four of their last five matches, a run that has reignited belief within the squad and boosted their survival hopes.
“We have worked hard to change our season,” Ndeto said. “The players have responded, and now we are beginning to see the belief grow within the team.”
Ulinzi sit 15th with 28 points, but their recent performances — including a 3–2 victory over KCB — have shifted momentum in their favour heading into the weekend.
Midfielder Boniface Muchiri has been central to that resurgence, providing energy and attacking thrust.
“We know this is a big match for both teams,” Muchiri said. “For us, every point matters now.”
The contest sets up an intriguing tactical battle. Bandari’s strength lies in their defensive structure, having conceded just 18 goals all season, while Ulinzi arrive with renewed attacking confidence and urgency.
For Mwalala, the next step is evolution in the final third to complement his side’s solidity at the back.
For Ndeto, the task is to maintain belief and ensure his team continues to play with courage.
