Philanthropist and former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has hosted Musa Kihara, the young boy who recently became a viral sensation for his eloquent directions to his home in ‘Kwa Mbae’.
Musa visited Sonko’s office alongside his mother and a group of TikTok content creators who have been highlighting the family’s situation. During the meeting, Sonko presented the family with a cash donation of KSh 100,000 to assist with their immediate needs.
“To support their journey, I was honored to contribute Ksh 100,000 to "Kwa Mbae" (Musa Kihara) and his family. Huge shoutout to Obidan Dela and his team of creators!” Sonko said.
A Helping Hand for Lewis Baraka
The family is currently navigating a significant medical crisis. Musa’s nine-year-old brother, Lewis Baraka, is battling throat cancer. He is receiving treatment at the Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral and Research Hospital.
Musa’s mother confirmed that Lewis underwent a major operation on a recent Friday to address the illness. Sonko expressed his admiration for the family's courage during this period.
In addition to the family’s gift, he donated KSh 40,000 to content creator Obidan Dela and his team to appreciate their efforts in sharing the family's story.
“I decided to show my appreciation for the great work they’re doing with a gift of KES 40,000. Keep inspiring us. Let’s keep this family in our prayers,” he added.
Prophet Kanyari’s Rallying Call
Sonko’s contribution follows a similar gesture from Prophet Victor Kanyari of the Salvation Healing Ministry. The Kihara family attended Kanyari’s church service last Sunday, where the preacher gifted them KSh 40,000.

Kanyari has also been instrumental in mobilising community support. He has called on Kenyans to join him for a visit to the family’s home on 26 April. The aim of the visit is to provide further financial and emotional support as Lewis continues his recovery.
"On date 26 twende kwao we support him coz he has a brother who has cancer." — Prophet Victor Kanyari.
The Journey to Viral Fame
Musa Kihara first captured the hearts of Kenyans after a chance encounter with a boda boda rider. The rider found the young boy looking exhausted by the roadside and offered him a lift. Musa’s polite and highly detailed directions to his home in Tharaka Nithi went viral online.
His frequent use of the word "umeelewa" (have you understood?) became a popular catchphrase. However, the initial lightheartedness of the video soon turned to a national appeal for help when well-wishers discovered the family’s dire living conditions and Lewis’s health struggles.
