The Kenya Electricity Transmission Company Limited (KETRACO) has announced a major recruitment drive, inviting applications from qualified candidates to fill the positions of Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, as well as General Manager, Internal Audit.

In a notice published on its website, the state-owned corporation said the Managing Director and CEO will be responsible for providing overall leadership and strategic direction of the company.

The successful candidate will oversee the planning, design, construction, ownership, operation and maintenance of Kenya’s high-voltage electricity transmission network and regional interconnections.

“The Managing Director and CEO shall be responsible for leading the company in planning, designing, constructing, owning, operating and maintaining high-voltage transmission lines and regional interconnections,” KETRACO said.

The position also reports to the Board of Directors and will be tasked with implementing the company’s strategic goals, vision and mission, as well as mobilising and managing resources to deliver on its mandate under the Sessional Paper No. 4 of 2004 on Energy, the Energy Act No. 1 of 2019 and the State Corporations Act.

At the same time, the company is seeking to recruit a General Manager, Internal Audit, who will lead oversight functions and ensure strong financial and operational controls within the organisation.

The role is part of KETRACO’s efforts to strengthen governance and accountability as it expands its transmission infrastructure.

KETRACO, established in 2008, plays a critical role in Kenya’s energy sector by ensuring a stable and reliable electricity transmission grid, facilitating regional power trade and supporting socio-economic development.

Applicants for the CEO position are required to submit a signed application letter, a detailed curriculum vitae, copies of academic and professional certificates, and a copy of their national identification document.

They must also provide clearance certificates from key statutory bodies, including the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, Kenya Revenue Authority, Higher Education Loans Board, Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission and an approved Credit Reference Bureau.

“It is a criminal offence to present fake certificates or documents, and any form of canvassing will lead to automatic disqualification,” the notice stated.

KETRACO emphasised that it is an equal opportunity employer and encouraged applications from women, persons with disabilities, and individuals from marginalised and minority communities, in line with the Constitution.

The Managing Director and CEO position will be offered on a three-year contract, renewable once subject to performance, while the General Manager role will be on a five-year renewable contract.

Interested candidates have been urged to submit their applications online through the company’s website before the April 27 deadline, with only shortlisted candidates to be contacted.
