Kenyan journalist Waihiga Mwaura has paid a heartfelt tribute to his wife, Joyce Omondi, following her departure from Citizen TV. Joyce hosted her final episode of the popular gospel show, Rauka, on Sunday morning.

The move marks the conclusion of a significant chapter for the broadcaster. Waihiga, who currently works for the BBC, took to social media to celebrate his wife’s career milestone. He described the moment as the "End of an Era."

A Proud Tribute

Waihiga expressed great pride in the work Joyce accomplished during her time with the station. He specifically mentioned her collaboration with the Gospel Sunday team.

The BBC anchor highlighted the demanding nature of the role, noting the early mornings and the pressure of live TV.

He told his followers that he was humbled by the farewell his wife received from her audience. Waihiga praised her for handling the demands of the industry with grace, strength and authenticity.

“I am so proud of what she has built together with the #GospelSunday team through early mornings, pressure of live TV and everything that comes with it but she did it with such grace, strength and an authenticity that many have spoken of,” Mwaura wrote.

The Final Sign-Off

Joyce Omondi had earlier prepared her viewers for the transition. On the eve of her final broadcast, she stated that it had been an honour to host the programme. She invited her fans to join her for "one last sign off."

The farewell ceremony appeared to be an emotional event for the presenter. Following the live broadcast, Joyce shared that she had received a beautiful farewell from her colleagues, family, and friends.

She described the experience by saying her heart was so full.

“I received such a beautiful farewell from my colleagues, family and friends this morning! My heart is so full,” she posted after her final show.

A Transition in Media

This departure follows a major career shift for Waihiga Mwaura himself. Waihiga exited Citizen TV in 2023 after years of serving as a lead news anchor. His move to the BBC was one of the most significant media transitions in Kenya that year.

Now, both members of the high-profile couple have moved on from the station where they were once colleagues. Waihiga concluded his message by assuring his wife that he is always cheering her on.

"Here's to the next level of greatness that I know the world isn't ready for."

The Power Couple

Waihiga and Joyce have long been regarded as a prominent pair in the Kenyan media landscape. They married in 2015 and have often supported each other’s professional journeys publicly.

Rauka is a staple of Sunday morning television in Kenya, forming part of the station's dedicated gospel programming. While Joyce has not yet detailed her specific future plans, her husband’s message suggests she is preparing for a new level of professional growth.
