Fisherman killed in Lake Victoria dispute in Migori

Detectives are investigating the murder of a fisherman following a confrontation on Lake Victoria in Migori County.

Police said the incident was reported on Thursday after the body of a man was discovered at Siginga Beach.

Officers who visited the scene found the body of 40-year-old Kennedy Otieno Herman lying on a boat.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the deceased had gone fishing earlier in the day with a friend and another man. While on the lake, the two reportedly became involved in a dispute with other fishermen over a fishing net.

The assailants reportedly fled the scene immediately after the incident.

Police confirmed that the deceased sustained a stab wound to the abdomen, which is believed to have caused his death.

No arrests have been made so far, and police are pursuing the suspects as investigations continue.

In a separate incident, police in Bungoma County have launched a manhunt for a suspect linked to the fatal assault of a 39-year-old man following a dispute over a stolen bicycle.

Police said the incident occurred on the night of April 15, 2026, at around 9:30 p.m.

The deceased, identified as David Wanjala Wafula, had reportedly returned home from a local market in the company of his neighbour, Wanjala Makhanu, when a disagreement arose between them over an earlier alleged bicycle theft.

During the altercation, the suspect is said to have armed himself with a wooden stick and assaulted Wafula, striking him several times.

The following day, the victim was taken to Mechimeru Model Health Centre for treatment and later discharged. However, he succumbed to his injuries while on his way home.

Police visited and processed the scene. The body, which had visible injuries, was moved to Bungoma Referral Hospital mortuary, where it is awaiting a postmortem examination.

The suspect remains at large as police intensify efforts to trace and arrest him. Investigations into both incidents are ongoing.
