Kisii governor Simba Arati has declared that the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) and United Democratic Alliance (UDA) will form the next government.
Arati, who is also ODM deputy party leader, expressed confidence that their cooperation with President William Ruto will secure victory in the 2027 General Election.
Speaking during Ruto’s development tour of Kisii County, Arati said the political landscape had shifted significantly since the 2022 elections, and that the emerging alliance between ODM and UDA was poised to dominate the next polls.
“We competed against President William Ruto in 2022, and he beat us with some 200,000 votes, when we were with former Prime Minister Raila Odinga. We had the support of the then administration, we moved around with chiefs and administrators, but you (Ruto) floored us,” Arati said.
He added that Raila then called for cooperation with the President, paving the way for the current working relationship between ODM and UDA.
The Kisii governor said the ODM-UDA partnership would not only endure but would also guarantee electoral success in 2027.
“As ODM deputy party leader, I want to say that the President means well, but there are some characters who want to lock the engine from within, or throw a spanner into the works,” he said. “Relax, we will form the coming government by all means.”
Arati further asserted that the people of Kisii had already made up their minds about supporting the alliance.
“Kisii is ready for the next government. We will not wait until 2027 to make the decision of forming the next government. Mr President, here in Kisii, people have already made up their minds about forming the next government,” he said.
Ruto, who concluded his four-day development tour of Kisii and Nyamira counties on Wednesday, reiterated his administration’s commitment to delivering on its promises despite criticism from opponents.
“The government’s focus will not be derailed by the opposition’s tribal, divisive, and abusive politics,” Ruto said. “We ask them to present their agenda to Kenyans, and the electorate will make a decision based on each leader’s track record.”
The President emphasised that UDA would continue working with ODM under the framework of a broad-based government aimed at fostering unity and inclusivity.
“We reject politics that divide Kenyans. That is why we formed the Broad-Based Government to eradicate the politics of hatred, division, discrimination, and tribalism,” he said.
During the tour, the Head of State launched, inspected, and commissioned several development projects across the two counties, while also outlining future plans aimed at boosting economic growth and improving infrastructure.
In Suneka, Ruto launched the upgrade of the Suneka Airstrip into a fully-fledged airport, a move expected to enhance connectivity in the region.
